Disintegration

TITLE:

Disintegration

WHAT:

‘Short’ of a Journey

ABOUT:

We all have experienced a moment where we felt as if we were falling apart. Whether it’s the loss of a loved one, struggling relationships, or a battle with mental health, I wanted to create something abstract and open for people of all backgrounds and experiences to relate to and remind them they are not alone. This short sequence is a visual expression of one’s journey of disintegration.

ROLE:

Individual

We begin mid-journey with our character as it watches another piece of itself floating away. The environment is a forest of geometric structures that were once stable and safe. As we follow our character, we can see the environmental structures changing from primitive shapes into long liquid forms that pull across the sky. Our character struggles to push through, its last hand is now trailing far behind. In the last-frame of the wind settles, the structures are now almost fully dissolved and our character has finished its disintegration leaving only a shadow of its solid form.

Mentor: Eric Nyquist

Course: Image and Idea

During my time as an Intern, I had the opportunity to take a deep dive into the lives and experiences of people who live with mental illness. Psychology and mental health have always been important to me but It was through this investigation that I became inspired to continuing this exploration in a course at school called Image and Idea.
