Pulp Fiction

TITLE:

Pulp Fiction

WHAT:

Title sequence for film Pulp Fiction

ABOUT:

Pulp Fiction is a dark comedy that follows the surreal events of four main characters as their intertwined timelines are met with gangster violence, drugs, and murder. For this sequence, we wanted to capture the dark humor by turning our main characters into cartoon illustrations. The characters would embody the objects or words that were tied to their storyline. These characters would then be infused into a 3D environment staged in scenes or events we find in the film.

ROLE:

Group collaboration with Lily Lin

MENTOR:

Ming Tai

PROCESS

My individual role for this sequence was character development through illustration and building the characters in Cinema 4D. I comped the band-aid advertisement in our last frame and designed the finishing tonal treatment in photoshop. The tools used in this project were digital illustrations, Adobe Illustrator, Cinema 4d, Photography, and Photoshop.

CHARACTER DESIGN

For the character direction I was inspired by artist Gary Taxali who draws inspiration from vintage comics and advertising.

A band-aid advertisement for our last object was chosen to capture the debated and mysterious symbology behind Marsellus Wallace band-aid which is located on the back of his neck.
